You have to write smart, and you have to be ruthless #Awesome

Also, where can I get some Colombian Marching Powder? #kidding!!

Saying "no" is really tough - not just to others, but to yourself, when there's more than one shiny project in front of you. But focus is essential to making any kind of forward progress. Sometimes the only thing in our power is the ability to say "no" to one thing (and yes to another).

Great post!

Number five. There needs to be a proper name for this act, so panel moderators can simply say, 'I'm sorry, you're [proper name]ing. Next question please.' I suggest we borrow from the Incredibles and call it 'monologuing'.

For me, writing about writing is like writing about sex: I'd far rather do it than write about it. Likewise reading about writing.
Each to their own; I don't find the processes or rituals of writing even remotely interesting; in fact, for me, it's akin to how Twain felt after he'd set about learning everything he could about riverboats. Once he'd done that, the magic and the attraction was irretrievably ruined.

I really like this post -- I've asked myself the same questions so many times. And I often think about this great guideline:
"Here’s a useful guideline: If you spend more time reading writing about writing than you do writing, you need to cut back."
Because that's a particular problem of mine...
Great post!

We have met the singularity, and it is not AI plugged into our brain stem -- it is the IPhone.

I'm going to link to my blog for my Aspiring Writers' Info, Richard. Great post!
