Just so, Carole. If there was adequate equipment, adequate training and adequate motivation, crime rates should fall. It's probably too much to hope for in today's economy, though.

Thank you for your comments

Very intriguing, as always. When fabric patterns can give you away, it's amazing anyone can get away with anything.

I've seen your wet footprints next to a swimming pool. They would make any cat proud.

Earthshaking investigative work described in an earthshaking piece, Amalgam. I shall conduct all my stealth henceforth on little cat's feet. ... Pure fascination, as always. Especially the imagination stoking extras you add abt the Japanese quake and the Yucatan event. Had no idea either was of such a magnitude. 110 mile crater? How did that slip by me? Asimov, Sagan, David Suzuki, Mr. Wizard...we need a new name on the list of docents of recent media science. How about "Amalgam Jones"?

This is great....there are a lot of scientific tools that (in the right circumstances) can provide clues and solutions to crimes. It's cool to hear when one actually works!

My abode is far from the OTR, and I still batten my hatch at night.

Thank you mucho for your gracious comments. I was more than a bit worried that I had wandered too far astray with information only peripherally related to the main subject.

As for a book, book, book, I have been trying to think up a good plot, plot, plot.

I clicked on the "allow comments" box this morning, but when I checked using Firefox, they were still closed. When I later checked using Safari, they were open. If the opening was your kind doing, thank you once again.

I've traveled that road many times for swimming meets and water polo, and now I know why people told me to "get the lead out" when I was rushing to reach Keating Natatorium in Cincinnatti. Should I lock myself up on full moon nights? ... Fascinating stuff, Amalgam. And I particularly like the narrative style early on in this article. Very much a method you could use extensively in a full book sort of like -- as I've mentioned before -- IN COLD BLOOD or somesuch. Your careful research and objectivity add a chilling certainty to these ominous and dynamic subjects. Overcoming reader resistance is the name of the game, and you do that quickly and thoroughly. Think about it. Book, book, book.
