"People think I’m gregarious as hell, but what they see (and it will vary) are personae that hang in the closet with my other clothes when I return to my inner sanctum."

Of all your wit and wisdom, this sentence sang to me! People who know me only in my wedding consulting or public speaking mode have no idea with what relish I hang those personae back (waaaay back) in the closet and change into the introvert, recharging my drained battery in solitary pursuits.

Jeani

It's such a genuine thrill to revisit Sully's scimitar wit and facile wisdom every month. It's truly a gift when the process of edification is just so damned enjoyable.

I laughed, I laughed, I laughed.

Thanks, Sully!!

Teighlor

P.S. There's a letter coming your way.

Yeah, but don't muses have little wings and wear tutus and stuff? I'll settle for the welcome illusion that I can live up to your kind words, just so long as I don't have to wear a tutu. And anyway, if anyone can fill a prescription for inspiration, you just did. Thank you, Madam Muse. You are hereby under contract...

-- Sully (Thomas Sullivan)

I think you must be a muse for many, dearest Sully. How could anyone be in your presence and not be hopeful regarding every possibility of life? You are the inspiration. I can't thank you enough for that.

Kara

You are a GENIUS, Davey! No surprise there, though. Why didn't I think of that? GET THE SQUIRRELS TO HELP!!! I am working on it. Will stop shaving my head and my face today, and as soon as I've grown enough "fur," I'm out there eating peanuts and trying to shmooze the little devils. Thanks, amigo.

-- Sully (Thomas Sullivan)

Now you know, Flamingo Frank, that my crazy life usually needs to be edited DOWN in order to avoid disbelief, legal prosecution, or persecution from squirrels. Especially squirrels. Do you recall my squirrel delivery service to the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin? Or drilling into the plaster wall one night to save the squirrel who had been high on mushrooms? Yes, I have UNDERTOLD my MUSE-ings. And if you want the painful truth, I look more like the windmill than Don Quixote these days. Too many limbs spinning maimed in the breeze. But I'm working on it...thanks, my man.

And, Rick, I guess you probably distill some of your most potent wisdom from the dark side, but you are scarin' me. You know, I learned optimism from some of the most cynical characters in my life -- con man, really. They knew that life needed no excuse, had to meet no standard, required no frigging with the tuner button. It just is. They seized it fearlessly and took it to the limit. That their limits lacked moral compunction was the error of their ways, but their culpable fault lay in not having remorse for that. Your remorse is sometimes profound (and, therefore, unjustified). If there were solid ground beneath negativity about life or meaning per se or one's own destiny, it would vanish in the act of despair and because of it. Like the parable of the talents, the biggest sin is in failing to act, whatever the consequences. You are an accomplished do-er with many grand results. You can't let things that went awry defeat that spirit or that effort. If procrastination is the thief of time, it is aided and abetted by doubt and fear. BELIEVE!

-- Sully (Thomas Sullivan)

-- Sully (Thomas Sullivan)

Man I choked on Dr. Pepper PLUS or whatever the hell this new Dr. Pepper is...I prefer it to Sgt. Pepper, in any case.

I, like Frank, have no trouble picturing this as an actual news story - events as they happened, score accurate. Oh, a little high and WAY outside...

It's too bad you can't bribe the squirrels to chuck the thing down for you and be done with it.

This brightened my day considerably...

DNW

For me, the moment comes not in finding the companionship of the words, but in the conscious decision to leave them. Write "The End" and volluntarily plunge myself back into the darkness . . . hopefully only for a time.

But you never really know, do you?
