I had been invited as "Keynote Speaker," which I didn't fully appreciate the import of until it was time to get up in front of all those people and speak on key notes and such...<br/><br/>I could have hit a flat, but ended up sharper than expected.<br/><br/>I had a sudden epiphany, and I followed it. I told them how I'd gotten there - I sold a novel to a small press that never published it. On the face of that, and a paragraph synopsis (and with luck on my side) I sold a Star Trek Voyager novel...with THAT in hand, I sold a trilogy and a stand-alone novel to White Wolf on proposals....and suddenly I had sold six novels, only written one of them, and none was yet in print.<br/><br/>It was funny, and I've never yet been able to repeat it.
